On May 5, I faced the blank page. On May 18th, I completed the first draft of a new screenplay. A dark comedy. I prepared by reading scripts and watching films – classic and contemporary. I listened to producer/writer Paul Schrader who made so much sense to me. I followed producer/director David Lynch’s prescription and blocked out scenes on 77 cue cards. I lived with those cue cards for two weeks until I could feel the story taking shape. When I finally sat down to write, I wrote 12-pages a day to completion. It was pure joy.
The screenplay form once felt impenetrable. Not anymore. I broke through some old, invisible barrier. Hallelujah.
