As I walked into the airport, a man stopped me. He said, “Have a blessed day.”
I smiled. I said: “Those are just about the best words anyone can say to someone.” After a beat, he told me he was wrongly accused of a crime he did not commit, and spent twenty years in prison. I looked at him, astonished. I asked how he kept his spirit alive. He said, “God wakes me in the morning. He must have a purpose for me. And others have had it far worse.” We spoke a little longer before he went on his way. Gratitude. He was full of gratitude – gratitude to God. He knew where to focus. And he knew that where he placed his focus was his freedom. I took his message to heart. ~ Christiane Schull
